Trevor Hyde

I work in arithmetic dynamics and number theory, with excursions into algebraic geometry, combinatorics, representation theory, and topology. Recurring themes in my work include rational points in orbits, preperiodic points, and profinite iterated monodromy groups; the statistics of polynomial factorization over finite fields and their connection to the cohomology of configuration spaces; and explicit Galois theory. My recent work focuses on the arithmetic of absolute geometry, and much of it is collaborative, including with undergraduate coauthors.

I received my Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2019, advised by Jeffrey Lagarias and Michael Zieve, and my B.A. from Amherst College in 2012. Before coming to Vassar in 2023 I was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow and L. E. Dickson Instructor at the University of Chicago.
